Have you ever had one of those moments where you wished you had the ability to turn back time, just for a minute or two?
So, I'm sitting at this stop light on my way home. It's a long light, so I've got some time. I notice that my glasses feel a bit loose. So I did something I've done since I've had this particular pair of glasses. I took them off, and bent them a little, so they'd feel a bit more snug when I put them back on. But this time, as I bent them ever so slightly, they snapped in half.
Once I overcame the shock of holding one half of my glasses in each hand, I realized that part of the reason I wear glasses is for driving. And here I am sitting at a stop light, in my car. And wouldn't ya know, the light just turned green.
Now, it's not like I'm blind as a bat without my glasses. I can still see... far away things just look like they've been through Photoshop's gaussian blur filter a couple of times. Even though I took the long way home, the drive seemed to take forever. All I could think about was getting home to my old pair of glasses, which thankfully had the same prescription as the ones I broke.
So now I'm stuck wearing my old glasses until I can get an appointment with my optometrist. They're not so bad. But I really liked the frames on my newer spectacles.
And so I come to the point of this post, which was turning back time. As I drove home (rather slowly, so as to not hit anything), I wished that right when my beloved frames had snapped, that I could have turned back time. Just a minute or two, right before my glasses became 2 separate pieces.
Of course, if I had just taken the freeway home, I wouldn't have had a stoplight to stop at and break my glasses. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Maybe you have to have a bad week in order to have a fab-o weekend?
Friday night:
margaritas with Amie, a short road trip to oakland, a great band, and we somehow managed to stay awake until 3am.
Saturday:
Half moon bay with WonderWoman and her sidekick Scout (yarn, the beach, calamari and fried artichokes!)
Saturday night:
Chinese New Year Parade with WW and Ed and dinner at Empress of China with a window seat so we could still see the parade.
Sunday:
brunch with Mum and Snake at an excellent little french bistro (the best french bread ever! Actually, everything there was great)
I was exhausted by the time I got home on Sunday night, but that was probably the best weekend I've had in a while. I couldn't help but brag a little.
Oh, and someone has started a letter writing campaign thing to save the Musee Mecanique. There's an e-mail making the rounds. If it doesn't reach your in-box and you want the address to send a letter, let me know: w@uglygreenchair.com. It may not help that much, but I'm willing to give it a shot.
